TSL would like to offer our condolences to the family and colleagues of Professor Emeritus H. Angus Macleod, a giant of the thin-film world. Angus published many papers and books and was a founding partner, along with his wife Ann, behind Thin Film Centre, a family business providing consulting and software. Their software and knowledge have been invaluable in the improvement of our thin film design, production, and characterization abilities.
We seldom dealt with Angus directly, but on one occasion our Company Scientist emailed Angus, puzzled as to why Groundskeeper Willie had enquired after Angus Macleod in an episode of the Simpsons. Angus replied, apparently quite amused, that this was far more likely to be a reference to the character of that name in the Highlander films.
