BSBF2022 – October 2022
BSBF2022 was an event designed to bring smaller companies into contact with big science organisations such as CERN, ESFF, ESS, X-FEL, ELI beamlines etc.
The event took place in Granada Spain in October over 3 days, it was attended by about 1,000 delegates and exhibitors. There was a suppliers exhibition which ran concurrently with a series of lectures and technical sessions.
Torr attended the exhibition as part of an SME initiative. We did not have a stand but instead had a poster on display as part of a session held as part of the event. We were free to meet with other exhibitors and delegates and to attend any of the sessions that were available.
Big Science was well represented at the exhibition. Many European countries had large, dedicated stands, the biggest being Spain & Denmark who were located in the centre of the hall. The UK were represented with a smaller stand along with The Netherlands, Belgium, France, & Switzerland.
BSBF2024 will occur again in 2 years time, the location is Trieste Italy.
UK National Quantum Technologies Showcase – November 2022
This year’s UK National Quantum Technologies Showcase took place at the QEII Centre, in London on 11/11/2022.
The event was open to industry titans as well newly established start-ups, academia, investors, and government representatives. We all had one objective in mind: explore the exciting opportunities quantum-enabled technology can offer.
There were over 60 exhibitors present. Mel Thomas (Commercial Director) and Alexandra Bratu (Sales and Funded Project Coordinator) represented Torr Scientific Ltd. on stand #24. Mel and Alex brought along some of our core product samples, as well as some new developments that have not been publicized yet (keep an eye out for new and exciting products).
Our representatives also had great news to share with everyone: we recently secured government funding for project QTEAM, which is in partnership with RAL Space, University of Nottingham and Metamorphic Additive Manufacturing Ltd.
Mel and Alex also discussed our novel proposed approach to Quantum Sensing. They piqued the interest of an industry giant. Exciting! Watch this space for innovative news.
All in all, the UK National Quantum Technologies Showcase is a great exhibition that Torr Scientific Ltd. attends every year. It provides us with the opportunity to re-connect with old partners and connect with new ones. It is safe to say that we are looking forward to the 2023 show.
AVS 68 – American Vacuum Society Conference & Exhibition – November 2022
This was the first AVS conference to take place ‘face‑to‑face’ since 2019, the previous 2 years having been held online due to COVID-19 restrictions. The venue chosen was a large exhibition hall in the centre of downtown Pittsburgh USA.
Torr Scientific booked a stand at the exhibition on which we displayed a selection of our viewports plus some other vacuum components. The exhibition was arranged to run over 3 days and attracted over 2,000 attendees (according to the organisers). All of the well known USA‑based vacuum companies had stands together with a fair number of European and Japanese companies. Overall the exhibition was busy with quieter periods during the conference sessions.
The next AVS will take place in November 2023 in Portland, Oregon, USA.
