Robin Cullander

Here at Torr, we have recently welcomed Robin, as our new Hermetics Specialist. Robin joins us with 23 years of experience in the vacuum industry! His role means that he is responsible for the TIG welding, as well as assisting with leak-testing, polishing and inspection on site, describing himself as a “jack of all trades”!

His previous role was welding for fine components, such as mechanical hands feedthroughs, rotary drives, and building manipulators. Robin’s transferable skills have already cemented him as a vital part of the manufacturing process, and he described how he was keen to learn more about our vacuum sealing processes such as bonding and brazing, mentioning that he is “keen to get up to speed with that”. He also pointed to our anti-reflective coatings as a particular interest of his!

Outside of work, Robin is a keen martial artist, starting his black belt cycle in Han Guk Mu Sool®, he also enjoys mountain biking – going to Wales for weekend trips for the bike parks and trails! He also enjoys racing his drag bike, describing that he “uses that as a bit of a toy” and that it “puts a smile on my face”!

Chris Madden

Another new starter we are happy to welcome is Chris, who has recently joined us in our cleanroom as our Thin Film Coating technician. Here he is working on our anti-reflective coatings in the e-beam, using the resistance evaporator and collecting information from techniques such as spectrophotometry.

He recently completed his integrated Master’s degree in Chemistry and nanotechnology at the University of Hull and was looking to find a job doing something practical while remaining in chemistry! His main interest is in photochemistry, so he is enjoying working on parts that are used within laser setups and mentioned he is interested in learning more about the phosphor coatings we offer!

Chris has moved to the area for the role and spoke about his experience in East Sussex highly, noting that being close to a forest and the ocean is ideal for him, especially with his interest in hiking and camping. He also mentioned that outside of work he enjoys table tennis and playing and modifying guitars!

Chloe and Jordan met working at Torr and will have been together for 6 years in August, working in the hermetics and inspection cell respectively.
