Torr Scientific offers a wide range of sapphire vacuum viewports in the Conflat® (CF), ISO or KF flange styles. These viewports are manufactured from a sapphire optic and they are sealed by a brazing procedure
Sapphire viewports are regularly requested for their ability to endure repeated bakeouts at high temperatures to achieve ultra-high vacuum (UHV). They are widely utilised for a range of applications due to their excellent qualities such as clarity, hardness and excellent broadband optical transmission from ultraviolet (UV) to near infrared (IR).
Our sapphire viewports are helium leak tested, cleaned, and packed to UHV standards on site at Torr Scientific.
What are the properties of sapphire?
- Excellent optical, physical and chemical properties
- Low fluorescence
- Good resistance to thermal shock and scratching
- Works well at high temperatures
- Transparent with high optical clarity

Sapphire viewports: what are the further possibilities?

Torr also offers accessories for viewports, such as annealed copper gaskets, viewport safety covers and bolts or clamps for KF or ISO flanges.
What AR coatings are available for sapphire viewports?
Anti-reflective (AR)
- Sapphire viewports are suitable for AR, VAR, WAR or BBAR coatings
- Coatings help to increase the transmission at customer specified wavelengths and reduce reflection
- Transmission range of sapphire: ultraviolet (UV) to near infrared (IR)
