Torr Scientific offers a wide range of zinc selenide (ZnSe) vacuum viewports in the Conflat® (CF), ISO or KF flange styles. These viewports are manufactured from a zinc selenide optic and they are sealed by a bonding process.
Zinc selenide viewports are widely utilised for a range of applications due to their excellent broadband optical transmission which goes all the way into deep infrared (IR).
Compared to zinc sulfide, zinc selenide has better optical transparency within the visual section of the electromagnetic spectrum. However, for this improvement, the tradeoff for this optic is that it is more fragile and more expensive.
Our zinc selenide viewports are helium leak tested, cleaned and packed to UHV standards on site at Torr Scientific.

Torr also offers accessories for viewports, such as annealed copper gaskets, viewport safety covers and bolts or clamps for KF or ISO flanges.
What AR coatings are available for zinc selenide viewports?
- Zinc selenide viewports are suitable for AR, VAR, WAR or BBAR coatings
- Coatings help to increase the transmission at specific wavelengths and reduce reflection
- Transmission range of zinc selenide: 0.6 μm to 21 μm
- We offer two standard coatings on zinc selenide: VAR at 10.6µm & BBAR 2-15µm
